A content framework built for public policy professionals

PolicyPress is built with an understanding of the content policy organizations produce and the policy experts who produce it.

Key Features

A place for every policy publication & promotion

PolicyPress organizes your content into distinct types:

  • Commentary
  • Publications
  • Courses
  • Programs
  • Events
  • Podcasts

Each of those types can feature unlimited subtypes, so you can separate blog posts from press releases or newsletters.

You’ll be able to create separate spaces and feeds for working papers, published academic pieces, multi-chapter books or whatever types of content you care to create.

Web-native publishing, not landing pages for PDFs

Rather than posting executive summaries with a link to a PDF, you can create rich documents that are a pleasure to read on a computer, phone, or tablet.

We’ve created custom Gutenberg blocks, such as block quotes, highlights, bulleted/numbered lists, image frames, and tables so that web publications work better than their PDF counterparts.

Endnotes support allows for academic papers to be read just as they would be in print, a floating table of contents provides easy navigation through each section of a paper, and chapters with publications allow long-form pieces to be broken up into multiple pages for easy reading on screens.

Highlight real expertise

While the web is being flood with low-quality AI-generated content, PolicyPress places an emphasis on the expertise of your authors, allowing your content to standout for its quality.

Our author system differentiates between in-house, affiliated, and guest scholars and allows you to organize people into any number of groups.

Individual scholar pages display education and work experience and communicate that history to search engines through structured data.

Sidebars provide quick links to each author’s social media profiles, websites, and their profiles at affiliated organization.

In PolicyPress, people can be associated with publications as either an author, editor, or a featured quotation within the piece. That way, author profiles can be linked in piece they didn’t write, but still feature in, such as press releases.

Examples

Dr. Devereaux’s profile features work history, education, and courses
Dr. Scafidi’s affiliated scholar profile features a link to his KSU profile
Dr. Scafidi’s affiliation, rather than this title, is used on this publication
a scholar taking on the role of editor, rather than author
a scholar featured in an outside publication
people can be organized into any number of teams or groups

Create a Database of Ideas

PolicyPress uses “entities,” a term that Google and other search engines uses to refer to people, places, organizations, and even legislation.

Entities allow search engines to understand the relationships between things and to connect users with your content even when their search terms might not appear on the page.

By incorporating entities into every level of PolicyPress, we draw those connections explicitly so that search engines don’t have to infer the subject of your writing.

We leverage open-source APIs from WikiData and Google itself to identity entities and associate them with nodes in Google’s Knowledge graph.

This approach transforms your website from mere collections of text to a database of ideas, with people, places, things, and concepts connected through linking, tags, categories, and structured data.

Search, Filter, & Measure

Once your content has been migrated to PolicyPress, you can search and filter by our custom content types, author, category, or any of the entity types associated your content.

We create a faceted search that allows your users to do the same, so it’s quicker and easier for them to find exactly what they’re looking for.

That ability to parse and sift through data is also extended to Google Analytics 4 through our custom integrations with Google Tag Manager. This allows you to see which author generated the most pageviews over the last month, which topics were most popular over the last year, or how many users viewed your event listings last week.

SEO from the Get-Go

We’ve built PolicyPress with the lessons we’ve learned from over 12 years of consulting with leading think tanks and intellectual magazines to build their traffic through organic search.

Every element of PolicyPress is built with SEO in mind. This includes semantic HTML 5 markup, schema.org structured data on every page, support for all modern image standards, incredible page performance scores, and integration with content delivery networks (CDNs) to improve overall speed.

We also provide you with tools to quickly create large-scale internal linking, which dramatically increases your ability to rank for key terms in your areas of expertise.

Security

Every PolicyPress website features enhanced security standards not found on typical WordPress installations.

Two-factor authentication is strictly enforced, stopping would-be hackers in their tracks. We also allow “magic link” logins so that only users who can receive emails at valid addresses can login to your site.

All website activity is logged and saved for a minimum of four weeks so that any attempted breaches can be tracked. This also helps with reversing mistakes caused by overly-enthusiastic editors.

We also fully integrate with transactional email providers to ensure that vital communication from your site, like password reset requests, are always delivered to your users so you never have to manually troubleshoot login problems.

More to Come

In the months ahead, we’ll be rolling out even more features for PolicyPress, including an automated media tracking featured powered by Ahrefs’ Backlink Checker.

This means that when other websites link to you, you’ll know, and you can show-off those links via a “citations” sidebar.

So, just like academic databases display the authors who have cited a work, your website will display the outlets who have linked to your site.

Future features also include AI-powered entity detection, sentiment analysis, and category suggestions, all aimed at making your content incredibly easy to find by searchers.
